Proud of this! Sometimes creative mediums should piss people off or illicit a negative response. Some big brain self professed art critic will probably saunter in here just to tell me "No,you just suck!" but I've been on New-Grounds long enough to see stuff equal to mine or stuff that is worse get higher scores just because in many cases it's not what you know but who you know!

When I dislike art I don't even bother to rate it these days. This is because I know most creatives (Whether I approve of them or not) have their own driving motivations unaffected by my feelings and my ability to give them one or two stars on their latest work. I'm more likely to offer constructive advice on a piece I take a shine to that is good but still flawed in a way I can recognize. Y'know, because that requires actual effort on my part and for me to take time out of my day to respond! Why would I invest the same time and energy into something I loathe?! Am I really going to deviate from my routine just to rate-bomb a work I would already rather forget? No thank you. I'm not a thought-masochist!

Regardless, too many kids today believe they can make someone they disapprove of "disappear" just by constantly bombarding them with "bad reviews" or "thumbs downs" when the truth is many rise to the top by using the hate they receive as "game fuel" to keep striving. I'm no different in that regard.

Don't get me wrong. I know I have a long road to walk when it comes to self improvement but I'm at least observant enough to see when I ruffled some feathers. To which my retort is by all means, stay offended! Your offense is my inspiration and drive to continue......

there are a few things i see similar to you.
I also think it's good that they seem to know where they still have to work (that's really, damn valuable).

you are also right that some critics have no idea what constitutes art or an artist's ideas. in art, the statement: 'you are bad' is a typical statement from people who didn't understand it.
there are so many different art styles. it's often the case that you come across some styles that you don't like (but it's not bad anyway).

you could say: `artist X painted wrong here and there and the motifs are not good´
But that's like going up to a little kid and yelling at them because they can't do everything perfectly on the first try.

long story short:
Art is nothing but a form of an artist's expression with different media (whether drawn, crafted, music, acting and/or synchronization).

if your pictures express what you want to express, it's good. (even if it doesn't matter to others)

but I guess most of what I'm trying to say you already know, or figured out for yourself.

Thanks for engaging with me! I agree art is a blend of objective skill but also subjective choices and subjective meaning. For example, many of my favorite artists are great at anatomy but they deliberately exaggerate certain physical traits beyond normal constraints. Then there's the debate on whether or not surreal or geometric landscapes bordering on cubism are better than realistic scenic ones. (I guess it depends on the particular work and how well various things interact and blend together.)

There's also the saying artists cannot take criticism but on a similar note critics do not always leave helpful advice nor is them giving you a low rating by itself with no further feedback anything you can use other than the mirthful joy you may feel offending an overly sensitive easily aggravated asshole somewhere. lol.

@nightsavior If I were you, I would take 'criticism' that is not justified or understandable (because there are no arguments) with humor or carefully ignore it.

tips and criticism that don't help you or obviously just want to say from behind 'you're bad' you should generally not take them seriously.

go your own way and you'll get better, and along the way you'll meet more and more people who don't understand you or don't want to understand you or who don't have a good attitude. but you will also meet people who will help you and take you further

I wasn't truly upset but you're absolutely correct, best not to dwell on negativity for too long! (If at all) I just find it fascinating how "stars align" so to speak. Aka,roughly around the same time I make a comment in the forums whilst having an opinion that is "wrong" or "bad" according to certain folks it will lead to a low rating on my art. lol.

Fortunately I usually steer clear of the forums. Not implying all people there are "awful". Quite a few of them are actually very nice and humorously insightful!

But it's obvious certain mods and certain uses lean a certain way when it comes to politics and current events. It's a big bone I have to pick against many current art communities. Aka,the move to become ever more bias and ever more lopsidedly swaying in one particular direction.

@nightsavior this is a problem that artists have always had. also existed in antiquity (you can ask the artists there)

There seems to be different times in our lives we are either behind the curve or ahead of the curve. Humans are fickle. Everything old becomes "new" again. Everything unpopular becomes popular again. It can be quite the roller-coaster for anyone chasing trends. Luckily many of us get to the point we just unapolegitically like what we like and do not care what "current thing" on the scene floor the mobs are presently chasing. It's comforting to have that peace of self!
